Welcome to the Rochdale Village Reconnection 50th Anniversary Reunion Blog

Hi everybody!

This is the official blog of the Rochdale Village Reconnection 50th Anniversary Reunion.

Yes, on December 10, it was 50 years since the very first tenants moved into Rochdale Village.

Many of us were the first tenants of the development, moving into Buildings 1-20 during a roughly two-year span from 1963-1965.

We saw the buildings grow right before our eyes, literally from the dust left over from the old Jamaica Race Track.

We made many life-long friends while we lived in that development, and we also made friends that we have long lost touch with.

What better way to celebrate the years we spent there than having a reunion--one where everyone who shared those years is invited to attend.

So if you were one of the first adults to proudly call the development "home" for your family, or if you were one of the first kids to play in the playgrounds and go to school there, you are welcome at this reunion.

This morning, five of the grown-up kids who once called the development home--Lori Field, Pam Skinner, David Benson, Janet Starr, and me, Larry Lapka--convened an informal meeting to decide how we would like to celebrate the 50 years of Rochdale Village.

We talked over many things, and now the time is to get to work.

We have some tentative dates in mind, and it will be held in October 2013, to coincide with the year that the actual first tenants moved in.

Therefore, we have no time to waste.

We will be meeting on a regular basis to formulate plans for this major event, keeping in mind time of year, accessibility, and, of course, cost.

Again, today was just the first meeting. Many more meetings, and a lot of work in between, will need to be done in the interim, and we will report on what we can when we can.

The next meeting will be held after the holidays in January.

Comments are welcome, of course, and we will try to answer them as best we can.

So check back regularly with this site as we progress to our goal:

The best Rochdale Village Reunion ever!

  3. Coinciding with the first occupants moving in and having the reunion in Rochdale would be just wonderful. What do you think?

  4. We won't have the reunion in Rochdale, but it will be held at a venue that is highly accessible to everyone, near public transportation, hotels, etc. I promise that you will not be disappointed.

  6. Thanks. Having it right in Rochdale would be logistically impossible. We would like the venue to be easily accessible to all, including people who will be coming in from out of town. More details will be coming in the next few weeks after the holidays.

  7. Moved to Rochdale over 40 years ago and would love to attend the event. It would be great to hold the event in a venue near or possibly in a hotel because I now live in Georgia . I will check back for the details.
